Recently assuming office as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun has affirmed his commitment to reshaping the nation’s economic landscape. During a meeting with the staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, he expressed his determination to be fully prepared for the task of revitalising the economy.
Emphasising on the fiscal and monetary reforms undertaken by the current administration, he highlighted their potential to reset the nation’s economic trajectory.
“It is our duty to ensure that the challenges are mitigated,” Mr. Edun stated. “We recognise our responsibility in making sure that these reforms uplift everyone and do not leave anyone behind.”
Furthermore, he stressed the imperative to deliver tangible results, acknowledging the high expectations of Nigerians. He praised the proactive measures taken by the President, indicating that the macro-fiscal and monetary actions would steer Nigeria towards a brighter future.
Seeking the cooperation of the ministry’s directors and staff, Mr. Edun declared, “Our joint effort can lead us to success. Let us collaborate to turn our aspirations into reality.”
With a vision to build upon his predecessor’s accomplishments, Mr. Edun outlined his intention to elevate the nation’s economy to greater heights. He expressed confidence in the ongoing automation and digitisation within the ministry, believing that such advancements would contribute to achieving their goals.
Mr. Udo Ekanem, the Permanent Secretary (Special Duties), welcomed the minister, assuring him of the staff’s dedication and loyalty. Mr. Ekanem noted the staff’s willingness to embrace change and innovation, as evidenced by their past actions.
“Congratulations on your appointment and your transition to the Ministry of Finance. Here, we have a team of committed and devoted staff who are eager and prepared to work. We have heard about your commendable work in Lagos, and our team here is open to your leadership. We are ready to collaborate with you,” Mr. Ekanem expressed.
Mr. Aliyu Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary (Finance), echoed the sentiment that Mr. Edun was well-versed in similar portfolios, having gained significant experience in Lagos and abroad. This familiarity with the terrain positions Mr. Edun for effective leadership in his new role.
