The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the sale of 25kg bags of rice to Nigerians at a discounted price of N10,000.
The initiative aims to alleviate the hardship faced by citizens amidst economic challenges.
Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the Comptroller- General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted the importance of addressing food security concerns exacerbated by factors such as insecurity and exchange rate issues. He noted the significant outflow of food items to neighbouring countries, posing a threat to Nigeria’s food security.
To qualify for the discounted rice, individuals must possess a National Identification Number (NIN). The NCS has implemented stringent measures to ensure the integrity and security of the initiative, emphasising that the rice is not for resale. With this initiative, the NCS underscores its commitment to safeguarding national interests and supporting the welfare of Nigerians.
