The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, has said that by association that Nigeria has had with the World Bank, “we have not only been able to access financing at low cost but we have also been able to access technical assistance and developing the capacity of our people.”
In an exclusive interview, the Honourable Minister noted that World Bank has so far intervened in the area of infrastructure, and more especially in the area of human capital development. “So, we have a lot of support in education and health and also in the National Social Investment (NSI)”, she also said.
In her words: “I can say that currently, the NSI has attracted a facility of $500 million from the World Bank, which has been used to argument government funding the $320 million that was recovered from the Abacha loot. And this has been used specifically for cash transfers of N5,000 per month for the poorest in our society. So, that is a very useful exercise the World Bank brought, and they are also supporting us in monitoring and evaluation.”
