On Tuesday, May 7th 2024, Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, inaugurated the new board members of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) in Abuja.
The board members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu on April 19.
The new board consists of Ms Halima Kyari as Chairperson, Mr Olusegun Omosehin as Commissioner for Insurance, Mr Olawoye Gam-Ikon as Deputy Commissioner (Technical Operations), Dr Usman Jimada as Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Administration), and Dr Miriam Kachikwu, Mr Adeniyi Fabikun, and Mr Umar Mohammed as members.
In his address, Mr. Edun emphasised the significance of the insurance sector in stabilising the economy and leveraging Nigeria’s demographic dividends. He expressed confidence in the board members’ ability to deliver on their mandate, considering their impressive track records.
The board chairperson, Ms Halima Kyari, assured the minister that the members were ready to work as a team to deliver on their core mandates. She expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and pledged loyalty to the team’s mission.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, also addressed the board members, noting their role in supporting the President’s agenda. She commended their confidence and urged them to fulfil their responsibilities diligently.
The new board is expected to exercise utmost probity in leading the commission, ensuring a safe, sound, and stable insurance sector, protecting policyholders, serving the public interest, and improving trust and confidence in the sector.
