The Federal Ministry of Finance has honored the retirement of Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo, the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, marking the end of a distinguished career.
In a recent heartfelt reception held in Abuja over the weekend, top government officials celebrated Mr. Udo’s legacy of dedication, leadership, and service.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, highlighted Mr. Udo’s invaluable contributions to the Ministry and Nigeria’s financial landscape.
According to a statement released by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Mohammed Manga, Mr. Edun said: “Okokon’s commitment to Nigeria’s economic development is unparalleled, his expertise, guidance, and leadership have been a cornerstone of our Ministry’s success. We salute his legacy and wish him a well-deserved rest.”
Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, also commended of his colleague, acknowledging his collaborative spirit and immense contributions. “Okokon has been an exceptional colleague, always willing to lend his expertise and support. His departure leaves a void, but his impact will be felt for years to come,” she said.
Several directors from the Ministry also took the opportunity to bid Mr. Udo farewell, reflecting on Mr. Udo’s mentorship, wisdom, and selfless dedication.
In his response, Mr. Udo expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and kind words. “I am honoured to have served this great nation and to have contributed to the development of our economy. I am proud of what we have achieved together, and I am confident the Ministry will continue to thrive,” he remarked.
He also expressed his excitement for the future, saying, “I look forward to a fulfilling retirement and exploring new opportunities to serve the nation.”
Born on October 19, 1964, in Itak Ikot Obio Ise, Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udo’s remarkable career has left an indelible mark on the financial administration of Nigeria. His legacy of excellence and public service will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
As he embarks on this new chapter, the Ministry expressed deep gratitude for his tireless efforts in advancing Nigeria’s economic goals.
“We celebrate not only his achievements but also the person he is – a true public servant, a leader, and a mentor,” said the Ministry’s staff, who wished him a happy and fulfilling retirement.
