Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has revealed ongoing efforts to bolster mutually beneficial relations between Nigeria and the World Bank.
During a meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Ms. Anna Bjerde, who was on a two-day visit to the country, Mr. Edun emphasised the importance of continued collaboration with the multilateral institution to advance Nigeria’s development agenda.
Ms. Bjerde’s visit was described as part of the World Bank’s commitment to engaging with Nigeria on crucial aspects of its development agenda. She highlighted the World Bank’s involvement in over 30 projects in Nigeria and expressed the intention to assess progress on ongoing initiatives.
Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, lauded the World Bank for its consistent support for Nigeria, particularly acknowledging President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its significant reforms. He noted that the 2024 budget would mark a reduction in deficit, a milestone in recent years, and called for sustained support from the World Bank.
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, also expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s assistance over the years, emphasising the invaluable knowledge sharing that accompanies financial support. He underscored the importance of continued collaboration for the benefit of Nigeria’s economic development.
The engagement between Nigeria and the World Bank reflects a commitment to strengthening ties and leveraging international support for Nigeria’s economic advancement.
