Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to clean and renewable energy solutions during the signing of a joint venture agreement between the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and North-South Power ( NSP) Company Ltd for the establishment of the Shiroro generating company.
The project, Nigeria’s pioneering 20MW On-grid Solar-Hydro Hybrid project, marks a significant milestone in the country’s energy transition journey.
Speaking at the event held in Abuja on March 19, 2024, Vice President Shettima praised the leadership of President Bola Tinubu in supporting initiatives driving economic growth and energy security.
The Shiroro generating company, a joint venture project investing in a 20MW solar-hydro hybrid project in Shiroro, Niger State, is embedded within a larger 300MW solar programme co-located within NSP’s existing Shiroro hydroelectric power plant concession area.
Honourable Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, emphasised the alignment of the initiative with critical priorities of the Ministry, aiming to increase energy output and diversify into renewable energy.
NSIA’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Aminu Umar-Sadiq, highlighted the partnership’s potential to deepen Nigeria’s clean energy portfolio and create jobs, while NSP’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Olubunmi Peters, highlighted the company’s commitment to renewable energy solutions and environmental responsibility.
