Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will soon present a new whistleblowing policy to the National Assembly for legislative consideration.
This revelation was made during a recent meeting in Abuja titled ‘Implementing the Whistleblowing Policy in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges, and the Way Forward.’
Mr. Edun emphasised the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the success of the policy. “The federal government is counting on Nigerians’ support to make these policies effective in promoting accountability and transparency,” he said.
The whistleblowing policy, once enacted, will provide mechanisms to protect individuals who report misconduct and corruption.
“It is our responsibility to uphold these provisions and support those who come forward in the interest of the public,” Mr. Edun stated. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to defending and supporting whistleblowers who are committed to doing the right thing.
Honourable Minister underscored that the policy is designed to enhance transparency, integrity, and accountability within the government and public sectors. He urged Nigerians to back the initiative, which aims to create a more open and accountable system.
Mr. Edun’s remarks reflect the administration’s push for greater openness and the creation of a robust framework to address corruption and improve governance. The presentation of the policy to the National Assembly is expected to be a significant step toward strengthening the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
